Damson Cottage from Castle Street

Bridgwater
Cottage's own web site

Damson Cottage is a delightful and comfortable 18th Century terraced cottage within the conservation area of Nether Stowey, in the foothills of the Quantock Hills (AONB). The cottage is well furnished, with period features. Accommodation comprises:

A beamed sitting room with inglenook fireplace and wood burner (first night's wood supplied), and a window seat overlooking Castle Street. There is a digital TV/DVD with Freeview, guide books, books of walks and maps of the local area, books and games. Broadband/WiFi is available free of charge.

A separate dining room, containing the Ikea pull out single bed, and a kitchen/breakfast room with a table for 2, and washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave, modern cooker. There is a low lintel between the sitting room and the back lobby/kitchen.

Upstairs are double and twin bedrooms and a bathroom with electric shower. The cottage stairs are fairly steep and with a secure handrail.

The small garden is sunny and secluded, having a patio with table and chairs, lawned area and shrubs, and enclosed by a fence making it safe for children and pets.

In the village there is a post office/general stores, a butcher, two pubs serving meals. The poet Coleridge lived in the village and his cottage (NT) is open to the public. The village is the start of the newly designated Coleridge Way.

With the Quantock Hills on the doorstep, Nether Stowey is ideal for exploring this beautiful area with its moorland, woods and wonderful views; paths from the village lead on to the Quantocks.

The sea and varied coastline is within 4 miles. The nearest beach is Kilve (5 miles) where you can find fossils and enjoy cliff walks and views to the Welsh mountains on clear days. A little further away is the sandy Blue Anchor Beach with views around the bay to Exmoor.

Other attractions within easy reach are the medieval Dunster Village and Castle, the ancient port of Watchet, Exmoor, Minehead, West Somerset Steam Railway, Tropiquaria for children at Williton, Hestercombe Gardens, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge and Caves, and much more.

Our visitors often comment that Damson Cottage is very well placed to explore different areas, and there is lots to do, even if the weather is not so good!
