Known as "The Friendliest Port", Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet in mid-Northumberland. It is 1 mile south east of Warkworth and 9 miles south east of Alnwick. The town was built on a point of land that juts out, so providing extensive views of the coastline. The old spelling for Amble is thought to be Annebelle, meaning Anna's Promontory. The town has an extensive beach of soft, golden sands.
