The Granary

Bury St. Edmunds
Enjoy England:   4 star
Cottage's own web site
Taking the name of and built on land once owned by French Benedictine Monks, as far back as 1198, these sympathetically restored farm buildings, offer accommodation with a great deal of character. Set amidst rolling countryside, it is a working farm producing cereals and free-range eggs.

Upper Somerton is a picturesque village with excellent walks, situated just 20 minutes drive from Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury. It is close to the famous and historic towns of Long Melford, Lavenham and Clare; also just 45 minutes from horse racing at Newmarket or Thetford Forest. Cambridge is within an hours drive and the nearest beach at Southwold only 1½ hours (62 miles).

The Granary is the larger of our two cottages. It is situated on two floors with original beams from the old Granary.
Ground Floor: Lounge/dining area with double sofa bed, oak wooden floor and French doors to garden room, kitchen, utility room with washer/dryer, cloakroom with toilet and basin.
First Floor: A six foot four-poster bed with en-suite bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, toilet and basin. A small balcony is part of the original outside steps to the first floor of the old Granary. Sleeps 2/4.

The Cartlodge is the smaller of the two Cottages, all situated on one floor and with the original flint features.
Ground Floor: Lounge/Dining area with double sofa bed, wooden floor and French doors to garden. Kitchen, utility room with washer/dryer, one double bedroom, bathroom with bath/shower, toilet and basin. Sleeps 2/4.

Both cottages: All fuel, power, bed linen (duvets) and towels included. Parking for two cars. TV/Video, DVD player (small library of videos and DVDs available), Stereo/CD player. Electric Cooker, Mini dishwasher, Microwave, Washer/Dryer.

The Granary and Cartlodge two properties can be used as one dwelling with a very low interconnecting door between the two, so larger parties can be together. Please enquire when you book.
