Spindrift Cottage is located in the middle of the quiet village of Southwell on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, England. The cottage is over 150 years old, made from the world famous local Portland Stone (the same stone that made St. Paul's Cathedral).

The whole property has recently been renovated and furnished to a high modern standard. It is very spacious and can comfortably accommodate 7 people. It has 2 double bedrooms, a twin room and a single room plus ample living space. (Our son wanted to call it Tardis cottage!). There is off street parking for one car and sufficient parking on the road for other cars.

Southwell is Dorset's most southerly village, being close to the famous Portland Bill lighthouse. There are spectacular coastal walks around Portland with stunning views literally on the doorstep. The area attracts many people interested in climbing, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, bird watching, rambling etc. Nearby facilities include horse riding, leisure spa, local pub (not noisy) within 100 yards. Weymouth is approximately 5 miles away.

Spindrift is another word for White Horses or windblown sea spray. This seemed appropriate as the cottage has sea views over the Shambles sandbank about 3 miles SE. Strong currents break the sea so fiercely that from the shore a continuous disturbance can be seen. Portland Bill Lighthouse guides vessels heading for Portland and Weymouth through these hazardous waters.

Highlights
  • Great coastal walks.
  • Great base for many activities in a quiet location.
