Kirkbrae Cottage is a traditional terrace cottage situated in Cockermouth, a lively market town in the northern Lake District.
Built around 1730, the cottage is located on the Kirkgate, one of the original streets of the town, and still lined by small Georgian townhouses.
Although appearing small from the outside, the cottage is spacious, being made up of what were originally two separate houses joined together. It sleeps six in one double bedroom (king-size bed) with ensuite bathroom, a double bedroom and one twin. There is a separate shower room with WC and wash hand basin.
The well-equipped kitchen adjoins the farmhouse-style dining room, with its feature original fireplace. There is a comfortable lounge with open fireplace, now fitted with a log-effect gas fire. The rooms have been furnished to provide comfort whilst maintaining a 'cottagey' and characterful atmosphere fitting in with the original features such as exposed beams and Georgian paneling.
Fronted by a cobbled forecourt, with horse chestnut trees, Kirkbrae Cottage overlooks All Saints Parish Church and sits opposite the seventeenth century Swan Inn. A short walk through the leafy churchyard, or by footbridge over the river Cocker takes you to the town centre shops.
The town makes a perfect base for exploring the northern part of the National Park, with the Lorton Valley, Buttermere Fells, Crummock Water, Ullswater and the Keswick area, all within easy driving distance.
