For something a little special The Wild Mushroom restaurant offers a secluded and intimate gourmet dining experience. (reservations advised).
A prominent sight as you enter the village from the South is St. John the Baptist church, which has served the parishioners for over 800 years.
There are many lovely walks close by, one of the most popular starting in the village. This walk drops down into the peaceful valley of the Forge Stream and then a delightful path heads north of the village through colourful low-lying meadows before climbing to higher ground. Following two sections of the 1066 Country Walk, this route is perfect for a short hike.
There is so much to explore inland too! Garden-lovers should head to Great Dixter and Pashley Manor, two fabulous examples of the horticulturist's art.
The fairytale medieval castle at Bodiam and of course the nearby famous battle site that heralded the beginning of the Norman Conquest at the atmospheric Battle Abbey, are equally well worth a visit.
Another popular tourist attraction with vineyard walks, tours and wine tasting is Carr Taylor Vineyards. Sample the delicious 'Gold Medal' winning bubbly, which has beaten strong competition from many well-known French producers!
Then down to the coast for beaches with golden sands. Try Camber Sands one of the country's best locations for beachcombing or visit Hastings a typical seaside town with a difference.
Namely - Britain's steepest funicular Victorian Railway, authentic Smugglers Caves, one of the last great Victorian seaside piers and the remains of William the Conqueror's first English castle - all sitting happily along side more modern day amenities including a Sealife aquatic centre and several astounding lighting installations including the mysterious marine monolith 'Stream' and the iconic 'Sticks of Rock' along the seafront.
