From the M6 motorway:
Take junction 40 and turn left onto the A66 towards Keswick. Continue on the A66 and do not take the exit signposted Keswick. Continue down the hill to a roundabout, here turn right onto the A591 sign posted Carlisle. Continue on this road for a further 7 miles then turn right, just before the Castle Inn, signed Ireby. Continue along this road for 1.5 miles and then at the top of a hill bear left signed Ireby. After 2 miles you will enter the village, through the narrow entrance to The Square with Emily's Black Lion public house facing you. Ale Cottage can be found on the left at the rear of the pub.
