Leave Inverness on A835 over the Kessock Bridge heading north and follow the signs to Ullapool.


At Ullapool stay on the A835 heading north for 10 miles to Drumrunie Junction.


At Drumrunie turn left on to the single track road signposted Achiltibuie and the summer Isles


This can be a slow road and it is advisable to do this road in daylight if this is your first visit. There are plenty of passing places and follow the normal rule of staying on the left. Please allow local traffic, who may be in a hurry, to pass.


Journey 15 miles through the Inverpolly nature reserve to Ra Junction at Achnahaird sands. Turn left to Achiltibuie and Polbain.


At the Badentarbet junction turn right and go on up the hill through the village of Polbain. Bruaich Rainich is at the end of the village on the left hand side of the road just after the Brochs.

Polbain is a little village about 25 miles to the West of the small town of Ullapool on the Northern bank of Loch Broom. The house is about 85 miles from the city of Inverness and takes about 2 hours to drive.
Public transport.
The nearest Airport is Dalross just outside Inverness or fly to Edinburgh, you'll be about 220miles or 5 hours drive away. The nearest Railway station is at Garve, 60 miles away.

There is a daily bus service to Ullapool, The bus stop is right outside the house.

By Car
Leave Inverness on the A835 over the Kessock bridge heading North. Follow the signs to Ullapool. Once you've arrived at Ullapool stay on the same road heading North for a further 10 miles. At Drumrunnie Junction turn left onto a single track road signposted to "The Summer Isles" and "Achiltibuie". If this is your first visit you should aim to drive this part of the journey in daylight. The road is quite narrow with lots of bends. There are plenty of passing places and you should follow the normal rule of staying to the left unless it would help a large vehicle to pass safely. After 15 miles through the Inverpolly Nature reserve you reach the junction at Achnahaird. Keep left. At the next junction, turn right and drive up the hill to the village of Polbain, Bruaich Rainich is at the end of the village on the left hand side of the road. Cars can be safely parked in the layby opposite the house.
